Chaamp is the first movie by superstar Dev under the banner of his own production company Dev Entertainment Ventures Pvt. Ltd. Chaamp tells the story of Shibaji (Dev), who comes to Kolkata in dreams of being a boxing champion. Under the mentorship of coach Buro Bagchi (Chiranjeet Chattopadhyay). The film depicts his tale of rise to stardom and his subsequent fall, only to rise back again stronger than before.
Chaamp is one of a kind sports drama as it features boxing as a relevant theme in a Bengali film. This film is an arduous journey of Shiba from a poverty-stricken teenager to a full grown and successful boxing Champion. The film uncovers the different facets of life’s struggles and how an undeterred and an indomitable spirit can fight all the storms till it witnesses calm – in spirit and oneness with the universe.
The movie was well received by critics and fans and was a commercial success. This movie launched debutante Rukmini Maitra into stardom, due to her receiving praise for her natural acting skills which won her the Filmfare Award for Best Debut (Female).
